It's been two weeks since I last posted here. So much for "The (almost) Daily Art Life". In my defense, it does say "The (almost) Daily Art Life", and anything can and does happen to interfere with the regularity, so as I settle into this routine of writing here, things will likely be less than daily and closer to weekly, maybe twice weekly. We'll see.
Onwards...
This week has been a rollercoaster. From the highs of making great progress and strides on a completely different body of work (differerent from my known paintings) that I've been pursuing for just over a year now to feeling a bit defeated in ways and trying to distinguish what something feels like versus what's actually going on.
I know, I know, it's all getting a bit...existential?
Anyway, I'm just trying to get through the gamut of emotional and mental ups and downs like a lot of us. It's funny, just yesterday, I must have been particularly tuned in because there was a series of moments in the day when I noticed just how many emotional states I can move through in a short amount of time. A lot of it is subtle, but when I'm paying attention, there's a LOT going on inside of a few moments in time.
The heightened stress being put on our country by this administration isn't helping, either. I'm trying my best to take in as little as possible but that's hard because of the firehose of negative actions being thrown at us at once. I'm doing my best to stay informed and leave the rest of it by the wayside.
In more uplifting news, I'm excited by how the new work, mentioned above briefly, has begun to flourish. I'm looking at it as a longer-term project. I may have pieces ready to exhibit later this year or next, but I'm not rushing anything. I'm being cryptic so as to not give much away, but I will say that it falls somewhere between painting and sculpture and continues my habit of upcycling/recycling materials and very colorful. That's all you'll get, not even pics until the work feels more solid.
Another positive spot was receiving a nice email note from a new satisfied collector:
"Hey Tim,
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to let you know I picked up the Tomorrow's Conversation piece on Tuesday, and I absolutely love it. Thanks again for welcoming me into your studio and giving me the chance to drop in. Keep up the great work."
Things like that make all the difference when you're feeling like everything else is going to crap.
Last, but not nearly least, I've updated the "Painting 2025" folder to include six new Soft Poem paintings, check it out here on pages 3 and 4: Painting 2024/2025
