2.07.25 :: more soft poems + paintings on the way

Soft Poems numbers 17-22 are in progress and coming along nicely. I'm digging the translucent layers I've been able to build up, so far. Since I already have sixteen of these under my belt, I have a better understanding of how the materials are working. Still, there are surprises happening because my approach to each piece changes as I near that weird middle section of painting where things can go haywire, but also lead to promising resolutions. Keeping things off-balance is always key.

There are three new 24" x 36" paintings on the way, as well. I just gessoed them today. There's no real need to gesso when working with acrylics, but I like starting with a white ground and going from there. I don't like using my good white paint for base layers and gesso is less expensive, so I go with that every time.

Had a good time listening to NIgel Three Times on The Lot Radio in the studio the other day.
